Sketchlingo: a Memrise alternative you play with other people
Both are about remembering words. Memrise has you drill on your own. In Sketchlingo you see somebody drawing the word and type what you think it is, with three other people racing you.
What Memrise is
Memrise is a language-learning app focused on vocabulary. It drills words and phrases and brings back the ones you get wrong so you review them over time. You study on your own, on your phone or in a browser.
We describe Memrise plainly and do not claim to speak for it. Check their site for current features and prices. Sketchlingo is not affiliated with Memrise.
How Sketchlingo is different
- Sketchlingo drills vocabulary through a live game with other people, not a solo session.
- You never see the word first. You watch someone draw it and type your guess against a timer.
- Words nobody guessed go into the room's review pool and come back in later rounds until everyone gets them.
- 124 words per language across 7 languages, all concrete things you can draw.
- Every round ends with the word and its English meaning.
- Free with no account. A turn is 80 seconds by default.
Who each one suits
Memrise suits you if you want to sit down alone, drill, and keep reviewing the same words over weeks.
Sketchlingo suits you if drilling alone gets boring. Same goal — remember the word — with other people racing you to type it.

- Guesses are typed against a timer. A turn is 80 seconds by default. Fast guesses score up to 500 points.
- Every round ends with the word and its English meaning.
- Words nobody guessed come back in later rounds until everyone gets them.

Questions
Does Sketchlingo bring back words you got wrong?
Yes, inside a game. Any word nobody guessed goes into that room's review pool and comes back as a later round until everyone has solved it.
Is that spaced repetition?
Not across days. The review happens inside the game session. There is a solo practice deck at /practice that goes through 10 of your learned words at a time, but if you want scheduled long-term review, a dedicated flashcard app does that better.
How many words are there?
124 in every language, and the same list is translated into all 7. With Pro you can add up to 200 of your own words to your own room.
